Bariatric Psychotherapy & Weight Maintenance Programme
A structured one-to-one psychotherapy programme for sustainable habits, emotional resilience and long-term weight maintenance.
The goal: help patients understand their patterns, practise healthier responses and build a personalised plan for maintaining progress after bariatric treatment.
About the Programme
The Programme is a structured 12-week one-on-one coaching and psychotherapy-based support programme consisting of one session per week. Each session is approximately 60 minutes and may be delivered physically/in person at Halcyon or virtually/online, depending on suitability and practical arrangements.
It supports patients in developing sustainable habits, emotional resilience, healthier coping mechanisms, confidence, accountability and lifestyle practices that support long-term success following bariatric treatment or as a stand-alone weight management therapy.
Why Psychotherapy Matters in Weight Maintenance
Weight management is influenced by more than genetics, food choices or activity profile. Thoughts, emotions, habits, routines, stress, social situations and previous experiences can all affect eating behavior, your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) and the ability to maintain change. Psychotherapy and behavioural coaching can help patients recognise these patterns and develop practical skills for everyday life.
With your Doctor
Recognise emotional, social and environmental situations that influence eating, then learn healthier ways to respond.
One-on-one Psychotherapy sessions
To help you develop sustainable routines around eating, hydration, movement, sleep, planning and self-care — without relying on extreme or short-term approaches.
Beyond-the-Scale approach
Strengthen setback-recovery skills by focusing on achievements & identifying early warning signs. Build a long-term plan that supports continued progress besides the number on your scale.

Support Between Sessions
Reflection and food-awareness diary
Simple self-monitoring can help patients notice patterns in hunger, mood, routines, triggers and eating behaviour. The aim is awareness and learning — not perfection.
Practical weekly exercises
Small actions are practised in real life, such as planning for social events, strengthening routines, setting boundaries or responding differently to a trigger.
Optional guided reflection or relaxation resources
Where clinically appropriate, short guided resources may reinforce skills discussed in the weekly session.
Psychotherapy and wellness group activities
Optional interactive sessions with other patients going through a similar journey. The group support activities are programmed to help you holistically understand yourself and cultivate the right habits.
Audio sessions
The new habits you have acquired will be cemented through using these audio clips, daily reminders and personalized plan to coach you at the comfort of your home.
What Patients Will Work On
What Success Can Look Like
The programme is not built around a guaranteed number of kilograms lost or retaining a certain number on the scale. The focus is beyond the scale on lifestyle modification and improving quality of life. The programme helps you get to a healthy weight and or maintain a certain weight range that is in sync with your goals and mindset. Progress may include improved consistency, greater awareness of emotional eating, stronger coping skills, improved confidence, better adherence to the bariatric plan and a clearer strategy for maintaining healthy routines over time.
Patient Experience
Through psychotherapy my relationship with food had to change.
"I learned to recognise my triggers and respond differently instead of feeling that one setback had ruined everything. The weekly sessions gave me structure and helped me focus on health, confidence and consistency — not only the number on the scale."Dr. Sharon B – Halcyon Weight Maintenance programme patient
