What Is a Brazilian Butt Lift?
Enhance Your Curves. Sculpt Your Shape.
A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) uses your own body fat to enhance the size, shape and projection of the buttocks while contouring selected areas of the body.
At Halcyon Hospital, every BBL treatment plan is individually designed around your body proportions, aesthetic goals, available donor fat and overall health.
A Brazilian Butt Lift, commonly called a BBL, is a body-contouring procedure that uses your own fat to enhance the shape and volume of the buttocks. Unlike buttock implants, a BBL does not rely on a synthetic implant. Fat is harvested from selected areas through liposuction, processed and transferred to the buttocks to improve volume, shape and projection.
- For BMI’s below 32
- 3–8Hrs Procedure
- Uses Your Own Fat, No Implants
- 3-4 Days of Hospital Stay
The procedure can provide two complementary benefits:
- Body contouring — excess or unwanted fat can be removed from areas such as the abdomen, waist, flanks, back or thighs.
- Buttock enhancement — suitable harvested fat can be transferred to the buttocks to improve volume, shape and projection.

HOW BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT SURGERY WORKS
1 Step 1 — Consultation & Body Assessment
Your surgeon evaluates your body shape, skin quality, fat distribution, medical history, previous surgery, weight stability, goals and available donor fat.
2 Step 2 — Fat Harvesting
Liposuction removes fat from carefully selected donor areas such as the abdomen, waist, flanks, lower back, hips or thighs.
3 Step 3 — Fat Processing
The harvested fat is processed so appropriate fat tissue can be selected for transfer.
4 Step 4 — Fat Transfer
Prepared fat is strategically transferred to the buttock area to improve volume, projection, shape and symmetry.
5 Step 5 — Recovery
You receive individualized instructions covering movement, sitting, sleeping, wound care, medications, compression garments where appropriate and follow-up.
Benefits, Disadvantages & Risks of BBL
Benefits of BBL

- Small scars that are easy to hide
Disadvantages of BBL
- No direct sitting for 2–3 weeks
- Compression garment needed for several weeks
- Not all transferred fat survives
- Not suitable for very slim people with little spare fat
- Weight changes can affect the result
Possible Risks
- Fat reabsorption (20–40% of transferred fat)
- Uneven or asymmetrical results (5–10%)
- Need for a touch-up procedure (5–15%)
- Lumpy or uneven skin where fat was removed (2–5%)
- Results smaller than expected
Complications
- Infection (1–3%)
- Fluid collecting under the skin (2–10%)
- Hard lumps from fat that doesn’t survive (2–10%)
- Blood clots in the legs or lungs (<1%)
- Fat entering the bloodstream (<0.01%)
IS A BBL RIGHT FOR YOU?
A consultation is essential because suitability varies from person to person. You may be considered for BBL if you:
- Want to improve the shape or projection of your buttocks.
- Have sufficient donor fat for transfer.
- Are in generally good health.
- Have realistic expectations.
- Have relatively stable weight.
- Understand the recovery process.
- Are prepared to follow postoperative instructions.
If you do not have enough suitable donor fat, your surgeon can discuss alternatives and whether another approach is appropriate.
BBL AFTER SIGNIFICANT WEIGHT LOSS
After major weight loss, some people may experience loss of buttock volume, loose skin, altered body proportions, excess fat in selected areas or reduced definition around the waist and hips. For suitable patients, body-contouring procedures may help address some of these concerns.

Recovery & Results
Recovery
Recovery varies from patient to patient. Early recovery may involve swelling, bruising, tenderness and temporary changes in sensation.
The surgical team should provide individualized instructions on sitting, sleeping position, compression garments where appropriate, physical activity, work, exercise and follow-up.
Protecting the transferred fat is an important part of recovery while the transferred fat establishes its blood supply. Do not publish rigid sitting or exercise timelines until Halcyon's surgeon confirms the actual postoperative protocol.
Results
The appearance immediately after surgery is not the final result. Swelling can make the buttocks appear larger early in recovery. As swelling decreases and the transferred fat settles, the shape becomes more apparent.
Some transferred fat may naturally be reabsorbed by the body, so the final result can differ from the immediate postoperative appearance.
Results depend on anatomy, available donor fat, surgical technique, fat survival, healing, weight stability, lifestyle and postoperative care.
BBL vs Buttock Implants
| Feature | Brazilian Butt Lift | Buttock Implants |
|---|---|---|
| Material | Your own fat | Synthetic implant |
| Liposuction | Yes | Usually not required |
| Body contouring | Yes | Limited |
| Foreign implant | No | Yes |
| Feel | Uses natural fat | Implant-based |
| Donor fat required | Yes | No |
| Suitable for everyone | No | No |
BBL and Liposuction
Liposuction is not simply a way to obtain fat for transfer. It can also help sculpt the areas surrounding the buttocks. A typical concept is: Abdomen + Waist + Flanks → more defined midsection, combined with fat transfer → enhanced buttock contour.

FAQs
A BBL uses your own body fat to enhance the size, shape and projection of the buttocks while contouring selected donor areas through liposuction.
No. A BBL uses your own fat, whereas buttock augmentation with implants uses synthetic implants.
Fat is commonly harvested from areas such as the abdomen, waist, flanks, back or thighs, depending on individual anatomy.
Not necessarily. Your surgeon may recommend achieving a stable and appropriate weight before surgery; this is individualized.
Potentially, yes. Patients who have undergone major weight loss may need assessment for excess skin, nutritional status, weight stability and other factors.
Your surgeon may recommend another approach or explain whether additional weight gain is appropriate. This must be individualized.
BBL carries specific risks, including fat embolism, and should only be performed using appropriate surgical techniques and safety protocols. Your surgeon should explain these during consultation.
Results depend on anatomy, surgical technique, fat survival and realistic treatment planning. The goal should be proportion rather than simply maximizing volume.
Fat that successfully establishes a blood supply can provide long-lasting augmentation, but significant weight changes can alter treated areas.
Yes. Liposuction is generally integral to BBL because it provides the fat for transfer and can contour selected areas.
Some patients may require or choose additional fat grafting depending on fat retention, desired outcome, asymmetry or body-weight changes.
Cost varies according to the extent of liposuction, surgical requirements, anaesthesia, facility charges, postoperative care and individual needs. A personalized quotation should be provided after assessment.
